2024 Kia Carnival Review: Comparison with Sienna & Telluride | Car Confections

Today, we’re diving into the latest 2024 version of the KIA Carnival. We’ll compare it against other minivans like the Sienna and three-row crossovers like the Telluride. Let’s explore how it stacks up!

Starting things off under the hood, the Carnival keeps things simple with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering 290 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, it offers a combined fuel economy of 22 miles per gallon. Stay tuned for our detailed test drive later in the video.

Now, let’s shift our focus to the stylish exterior. With its SUV-like design approach, the Carnival stands out among minivans. The front end features unique grille choices and distinct LED headlights. However, only the top-end SX Prestige trim offers LED tail lights, a minor disappointment.

Moving on to the interior, the cabin offers a traditional yet functional layout. With options for cloth or leatherette seating, power-adjustable seats, and ample storage, the Carnival prioritizes comfort and convenience. Higher trim levels even offer luxurious features like heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and rear-seat entertainment.

In terms of safety, KIA includes standard active safety features on most trim levels, with additional options like adaptive cruise control and rear auto braking available on higher trims.

During our test drive, we found the Carnival to deliver a smooth and refined ride, thanks to its V6 engine and responsive transmission. While it lacks alternative powertrain options or all-wheel drive, it compensates with its spacious interior, class-leading cargo capacity, and competitive pricing.

Speaking of pricing, the 2024 Carnival starts at $33,200 for the LX trim and goes up to $45,600 for the SX Prestige trim, making it a compelling value proposition in the minivan segment.

The 2024 KIA Carnival impresses with its blend of comfort, versatility, and affordability. Whether you’re hauling the family or embarking on a road trip, the Carnival proves to be a capable and stylish choice in its class.

Kia Carnival Curiosities

South Korea is where Kia is building the 2024 Carnival. The length of the Kia Carnival is 16.9 feet. It weighs between 4,431 and 4,727 pounds curbside.

What to expect in 2024?

For 2024, there are only two small changes to the Carnival and they only affect the EX version. This mid-range version no longer has power windows that go up and down on their own, but it does have a power tailgate.

The Carnival has four trim levels, from the budget LX to the top-of-the-line SX Prestige. However, the EX is the best balance of price and features. The EX trim comes with a power tailgate, a cabin intercom, and a voice control system that allows passengers in the back seat to tell the Carnival’s infotainment system what to do. These features help make the upgrade worth the cost.

What is the price of the Kia Carnival in 2024?

  • The LX version is available at a starting price of  $34,565 .
  • If you’re looking for more features and options, the EX version is priced at  $40,065 .
  • Stepping up to the SX trim will cost you  $43,265 .
  • For those who want the ultimate in luxury and performance, the SX Prestige trim is available at a premium price of  $47,665 .

Power, gears and emotions: Kia Carnival Performance 2024

A 3.5-liter, 6-hp V-290 engine powers the Carnival, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox is standard. The Carnival is only available with front-wheel drive, so all-wheel drive is not an option. The Pacifica has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that can be added as an option, and the Toyota Sienna is a hybrid by default. Carnival, on the other hand, does not have this option.

We’re surprised by how well-balanced the Carnival’s ride and handling are. It’s smooth when you drive but still stable when you turn. The upgraded V-6 engine gives the Carnival quick acceleration. The Carnival went from 0 to 60 mph on our test track in 7 seconds.

2024 Kia Carnival Real-World Fuel Efficiency and MPG

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),  the Kia Carnival gets 19 miles per gallon in the city, 26 miles per gallon on the highway, and 22 miles per gallon overall. . But you know what they say about government estimates: they’re like trying to fit a clown car into your garage; They always leave you surprised!

Inner happiness, cozy comfort and charging convenience

The Carnival’s dashboard and front seating area are contemporary and spacious. There’s plenty of room for small items in the truck’s large center console, and you can get an optional dual-screen infotainment system with a digital gauge display that looks like it came from a Mercedes.

This makes it easier to use the van’s connectivity features. The top-of-the-line SX Prestige version has leather seats and can be ordered with reclining second-row seats and fold-out footrests.

Although these VIP Seats” are a comfortable way for people to pass the time on a long trip, they cannot be removed or stored in the floor like they can in other minivans. This means that the Carnival cannot carry as much cargo as it could. A panoramic sunroof is available that has a large opening in the second row so kids can get some fresh air.

In our testing, we were able to fit 14 carry-on bags behind the third row of seats and a whopping 48 with all the seats folded. That’s a lot of space, but it’s important to note that the Pacifica and Odyssey were a bit larger.

Entertaining your senses: the world of infotainment and connectivity

Standard is a single 8.0-inch entertainment screen, but you can get two 12.3-inch screens that take up two-thirds of the dashboard. One of these screens is a digital gauge and the other is an infotainment screen. Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are up to nine USB ports in Carnival’s staterooms.

Starting with the SX trim, you can add a rear-seat entertainment system, but you can only get a 12-speaker Bose stereo with the SX Prestige model.

Guardians behind the wheel: wonders of safety and driver assistance

Kia offers many basic driver-assist features, including lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring, all of which help the Carnival compete with the Pacifica, Sienna, and Honda Odyssey.

Check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for more information on Carnival’s crash test results. Key security features are expected to include:

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian recognition
  • Standard Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist
  • Available adaptive cruise control.

Kia Carnival Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Kia’s warranty surpasses that of its rivals, with a powertrain policy spanning ten years or 100,000 miles.  However, unlike the Sienna, the Carnival doesn’t come with any complimentary scheduled repairs.

  • Five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty.
  • The powertrain warranty lasts for ten years or 100,000 miles.
  • There are no free scheduled repairs.

Is the 2024 Kia Carnival a good minivan?

Kia Carnival is like a magician’s hat: it has room for people, things, and probably a rabbit or two.

The Kia Carnival is more spacious than a clown car at a family reunion. You can stretch, do yoga, and even host a little tea party. And when it comes to driving, this Kia is smoother than a buttered slide. The engine has more power than grandma’s secret chili recipe. Plus, it comes with more gadgets than a secret agent’s toolkit, and they’re all included, no need to bribe the car dealer.

But just as every carnival has a creepy clown, Carnival has its quirks. Trying to use the infotainment system is like juggling flaming bowling pins – it’s kind of a circus. And those optional second-row lounge seats? They’re so comfortable, they’ll take up cargo space faster than cotton candy melting in the sun. So, if you plan on hauling a ton of luggage, you might want to ditch the couches for a game of musical chairs.

Overall, Carnival 2024 is like the star of the car show: entertaining, surprising, and sometimes making you question your choices. That’s what a carnival is all about, right?

Should you buy a Kia Carnival in 2024?

Kia Carnival has so many features that you’ll feel like you’re driving a spaceship. It has more options than a fancy restaurant menu. And let’s talk about performance: it won’t win any drag races. However, it is as reliable as your grandmother’s apple pie recipe.

But wait, there is more! If you’re looking at the Carnival but suddenly realize you need more cargo space, step into the Honda Odyssey, the Carnival’s flashy cousin that always outdoes you at family gatherings. It has all the amenities, but be prepared to dig deeper into your wallet.

If you’re into going green and want to impress your eco-conscious neighbors, check out the Toyota Sienna hybrid. It has all-wheel drive, which means you can conquer any terrain, even your neighbor’s meticulously manicured lawn. Plus, it sips gas like it’s at a tea party, but you’ll have to sacrifice some space and power, like trying to fit into those skinny jeans after a big Christmas party.

There you have it: Carnival, Odyssey and Sienna, three minivans that will make you the envy of the carpool lane, each with their own quirks and charms. Happy minivan hunting!

Kia carnival versus competition

Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey is the best car and doesn’t have many problems. The Odyssey, like the 2024 KIA Carnival, has a nice, spacious cabin with plenty of room in all three rows. Both the Kia and Honda have powerful V6 engines, confident handling, and plenty of driver-assist tools that come standard.

However, in some ways the Odyssey is better than the Carnival. It can transport more goods at a time and consumes a little less gasoline. Both minivans have a lot to offer, but you should look at the Odyssey first.

Toyota Sienna

Like the Carnival, the Toyota Sienna has a large, comfortable cabin and plenty of standard equipment. The Sienna Hybrid gets much better gas mileage than the Carnival, and unlike the Carnival, it can be had with all-wheel drive. Although the Toyota gets better gas mileage, it comes at a cost.

It seems like it needs more power, which makes it difficult to get up to speed on the highway. The Toyota also has less cargo space than the Kia and its entertainment system could be better than the Kia’s. Although Siena has its advantages, 2024 KIA Carnival might be a better option.
