The 2024 Lamborghini Urus has become the best-selling model of the Sant’Agata Bolognese brand. This SUV with baroque shapes, a 5.11 meter long body and spectacular mechanics that delivers 650 HP is the main actor in this test that, we hope, is as spectacular as its protagonist.
When Lamborghini announced the market launch on December 4, 2017 of its fourth model, the 2024 Lamborghini Urus, the brand took an important step forward by entering for the first time into a segment where it had not had a presence since the very special and limited LM002, whose initials They come from Lamborghini Military of which only 300 units were manufactured. A Lamborghini SUV!
The 2024 Lamborghini Urus came to complement the two supercar models that had formed its most recent range, the Aventador with its V12 engine and the Huracán with its V10, which arrived to replace the Gallardo a few years ago. It made perfect sense that the complement to those two bulls would be an SUV, the segment that was doing the most in the market.
2024 Lamborghini Urus today is internationally recognized for its super sports cars, some of the most spectacular and with the most personality in the world. I think Ferruccio Lamborghini would be proud of the car we are dealing with today. The brand itself refers to it as the first Super SUV, an authentic Lamborghini in terms of design, performance, dynamic behavior and emotion, also usable on a daily basis in a wide variety of environments.
As spectacular as supercars
When you see a Lamborghini Urus in person, you realize how special this car is. Its bodywork is imposing; it has presence and a unique appearance. It is marked by straight lines and edges are everywhere.
On the front you can see how they have managed to transfer and adapt the characteristic design of the Huracán to the dimensions of an SUV. The optics are quite sharp, and are marked by the Y-shaped interior LED line that gives it personality.
The shape of the front hood, with a small slit at the height of the logo that presides over the front, is almost identical to that of the Huracán, and this has the engine in a central position and not under the hood as is the case in the Urus.
The imposing grille, of gigantic dimensions and with a pattern of hexagonal shapes, reaches very low and denotes that we are looking at a sporty SUV rather than one that has many country pretensions.
The rest of its body is marked by straight and angular lines, very wide front and rear fins and a descending roof line that gives it the appearance of an SUV Coupé in a very natural and clean way.
The spoiler located at the end of the roof gives way to the super-sloping rear window, which in turn marks the style of the tailgate. It presides over the word Lamborghini located in a clearly visible position, right on the LED line that joins both rear headlights, making it possibly one of the most powerful rear lights you have ever seen.
The set is completed by the darkened optics with LED lights, once again in the shape of a Y, the four exhaust outlets, arranged two on each side and an air diffuser that once again reminds us of supercars and tells us that we are not facing a any car.
When you approach it it doesn’t seem like you are approaching a 5.11 meter long car. Due to the compactness of its lines, the 2024 Lamborghini Urus appears considerably smaller than it really is. We’ll see if the same thing happens when driving it.
Aeronautical-inspired interior
You open the door of the Lamborghini Urus and you find an absolutely spectacular, overwhelming interior, with a clear inspiration in the world of aviation.
The 2024 Lamborghini Urus can accommodate five occupants (optionally it can also be ordered with only 4 seats and a more radical seating configuration) who will enjoy a wild experience.
The entire dashboard follows the same design guidelines as the exterior, with a predominance of hexagonal shapes, straight lines and edges. This happens, for example, in the ventilation outlets, located at the top and in the case of the test unit, covered by carbon fiber moldings.
The combination of leather with fluorine yellow stitching (matching the exterior details, such as the lower part of the bumper that are part of this special Graphite Capsule version ), the carbon and alcantara that is also used on the bottom of the dashboard, make this car convey a feeling of sportiness and luxury in equal parts.
There are two screens on the center console. The upper one is where the audio, navigation, telephone and vehicle information systems are managed. The lower one mainly integrates the air conditioning controls and some others. Those who have ridden in an Audi RS Q8 will perceive certain similarities, although the Lamborghini has spellings of all these menus that follow the hexagonal pattern.
Other controls are more easily identified as being of Audi origin, such as the buttons on the three-spoke multifunction steering wheel or the levers on the sides of the steering column for the turn signal and windshield wiper controls.
Despite what it appears to be due to its peculiar exterior design, the interior of the 2024 Lamborghini Urus conveys a feeling of spaciousness in both the front and rear seats, something logical thanks to the three-meter distance between the axles. For its part, the Trunk has 616 liters of capacity.
Takeoff procedure
The start-up of a 2024 Lamborghini Urus has nothing to do with that of most earthly cars. It begins with a starting procedure that makes you think you’re starting the turbines of a fighter jet instead of starting a simple car.
In the center of the center console there are three controls called Tamburo that are inevitably reminiscent of those that airplane pilots have before them. In the center, we find a red cover protecting the start button. You have to lift it to have access to the start button. When pressed, the beast wakes up with a fairly considerable roar.
From that control you can also select the different gear positions, between P, D, N, R or M in case you want to put the gear in manual position and play with the gear shift paddles located behind the steering wheel. These, by the way, are very large in size and have an excellent feel.
Engine, Transmission and Performance
The engine of this beast is in line with the approach of the car. This is the 4.0 V8 twin-turbo that we know from other Volkswagen Group models, such as the Audi RS Q8. In the Urus it has been increased to 650 HP at 6,000 RPM, being able to stretch up to 6,800 RPM.
We hit the road and during the first few steps, always in the STRADA driving mode which is the one in which it starts by default, you can see how the engine is super full throughout the entire rev band. You don’t have to try hard to go in the right gear of the eight available when you have 850 Nm of torque ready to push as long as you keep the speed between 2,250 and 4,500 RPM.
The driver’s seat, which in this case was the optional one with 18 adjustments, allows a driving position extremely close to the ground, much closer than is usual in an SUV of its size and approach.
This, together with a very direct chassis and suspension setup, creates a unique connection with the whole, which makes the feeling of control absolute at all times. And of course, having 650 HP on your hands translates into a desire to have a good time.
Unlimited benefits of 2024 Lamborghini Urus
We continue to increase the pace as we follow the caravan; made up of two more Urus and three Huracán EVO (you can already guess one of the next tests). The car runs a lot, no, a lot. Their figures say it and that’s how it feels from the driver’s seat. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 12.8 seconds, but if you decide to continue going full throttle you will reach the maximum speed of 305 km/h sooner than you imagine.
These features in a car of its size, no matter how low it goes, and with a weight of 2.2 tons, make the sensations absolutely beastly. There is hardly any uncomfortable inertia, the kind that diminishes confidence when you go on the attack.
