Exploring the Toyota Noah 2021: A Deep Dive into Japan’s Unique Minivan Culture
The Toyota Noah may not be a very popular series outside of Japan, but for those interested in purchasing one, it’s worth noting that it can be a bit expensive. In this article, I’ll discuss how to buy one at a lower cost.
Design and Dimensions
The front face of the Toyota Noah 2021 is quite massive, with a strong presence. The body size measures 4,695 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width, and 1,895 mm in height. The Toyota Noah was reborn as the successor to the TownAce Noah in 1996 and is now in its third generation. This vehicle falls under the category of a Japanese unique culture minivan.
While I’ve always preferred minivans, finding them too square and lacking in appeal, the Toyota Noah has managed to pique my interest. It may not exude speed, but it certainly possesses a unique personality. The notched outline of the rear window, a departure from the typical use of large resin parts, creates a shadowed, nipped-in effect, giving the appearance of a slimmer design. This unique feature is one of my favourites, and it’s these kinds of design elements that make Noah stand out.
The designers have made efforts to make the Toyota Noah 2021 appear sportier, and I’d like to thank the Toyota Nets Otakanomori branch, a renowned design and innovation center within Toyota, for their valuable insights and cooperation in shooting the video that accompanied this review.
Exterior Features
Let’s focus on the front. The boxy design might look intimidating in the rearview mirror, but it lacks the sharp, flowing design I prefer. The front grille is quite prominent, which is a typical feature of Japanese minivans, but I miss the sleeker designs like the now-discontinued Estima.
The Noah comes in five trims and seven color options, primarily in a slightly darker palette. The rear design also stands out, featuring horizontal taillights instead of the usual vertical ones. The spoiler cleverly hides the rear wiper, contributing to a cleaner look. The 17-inch aluminum wheels, which appear to be from Toyota’s manufacturing, add a touch of sophistication.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the Toyota Noah 2021 offers a 1.8-liter hybrid engine and a 2-liter NA engine. The fifth-generation hybrid system increases motor output by 16%, while the power control unit has been made more compact, reducing electric energy loss by 29%. This not only enhances the vehicle’s performance but also its fuel efficiency, making it an ideal choice for those who are conscious about their carbon footprint. The engine is set low in the compartment, and the bonnet could be lowered slightly for an even sleeker appearance.
Interior and Comfort
Moving to the interior, the Toyota Noah 2021 is impressively spacious. Even with the hybrid system, there is still 104 litres of space under the floor, perfect for storing toys, baby diapers, or other items. The third seat is particularly noteworthy for its ease of use. It can be stowed away with one hand, creating a more spacious environment and allowing for a long slide in the second seat, which can now fully recline—a revolutionary feature in minivans.
Practicality and comfort are where the Toyota Noah truly shines. The rear seat space is vast, and the large windows enhance the sense of space, making it a comfortable ride for the whole family. The second-row seats offer excellent visibility and come with sunshades, long slide armrests, USB ports, and trays, making it easy to relax on long journeys. These thoughtful features make Noah a reassuring choice for families.
Driving and Safety
The driving position in the Toyota Noah is comfortable, with a suspended throttle pedal and a centered steering wheel axis. The forward visibility is excellent, although the view from the rear is somewhat limited when the third-row seat is folded up. The 10.5-inch display audio system, AC vents, seat heat switches, and sync controls are well-organized and user-friendly.
The overhead console includes a digital display, and the ability to open the luggage gate and sliding doors from here adds to the convenience, making the Noah almost taxi-like in its ease of use.
Â
Conclusion:
The Toyota Noah, a minivan deeply rooted in Japanese culture, offers a blend of practicality, comfort, and subtle sportiness. While its silhouette hasn’t changed much over the years, the model has seen various updates that make it an intriguing choice for families. Whether you’re a fan of minivans or not, the Toyota Noah deserves recognition as a true family vehicle, offering space, safety, and comfort in equal measure.
With its spacious interior, versatile seating configurations, advanced safety features, efficient performance, and modern convenience features, the Toyota Noah is the ultimate family companion. Experience the perfect blend of comfort, reliability, and practicality with the Toyota Noah 2021, and make every journey memorable for you and your loved ones.
