2024 Rolls Royce Cullinan Restyling the Most Luxurious SUV

Even the most luxurious SUV in the world needs to be updated over time. Rolls-Royce’s best-selling car is renewed with a redesigned front. This unexpectedly bold approach will spark controversy. The 2024 Cullinan will continue to include the Black Badge version with its 600 HP V12 engine in its range.

Known as Cullinan Series II, the opulent SUV incorporates new headlights with enlarged LED daytime running lights, which descend to the bumper, giving the front a more peculiar appearance.

The parent company, BMW Group, is willing to take design risks with its ultra-luxury brand. There are no split headlights like on the BMW X7, but the makeover is equally controversial.

Not only did the headlights have, but the front bumper also had an unconventional look. Rolls-Royce has removed the slender air intakes that flanked the grille, resulting in a large ‘clean’ surface. Furthermore, the redesigned lower air intakes are slightly inclined, while the large radar sensor is still below the license plate.

The SUV also receives an illuminated grille, already used in other company models and some BMWs. Another novelty is the adoption of majestic 23-inch wheels, which are a first for the model. Emperador Truffle paint completes the exterior changes.

Likewise, the Cullinan Black Badge gets this makeover with different 23-inch wheels. It is the first Black Badge model to sport such a large set of wheels, with ten interlocking spokes. Several exterior details (including the Spirit of Ecstasy figure) have a black appearance, with more dark trim than before. You can even choose an all-black version of the grille.

The Rolls Royce Cullinan 2024 interior layout has stayed the same. However, beneath the analog clock is now the Spirit of Ecstasy, so your chauffeur knows he is not driving a ‘mundane’ BMW X7. The carbon fiber trim on the Black Badge dashboard has no less than six coats of lacquer. Each of the 23 pieces is hand-polished to a mirror finish that takes 21 days to complete.

The Black Badge is shown here with a striking new Duality Twill leather interior with a whopping 2.2 million stitches and 18 km of thread. More specifically, the Cullinan 2024 may have 107,000 perforations of 0.8 and 1.2 millimeters. We want to meet the person responsible for counting all the tiny holes in the seat upholstery.

The renewed SUV can still have seven seats if you opt for the individual rear seats installed in the cargo compartment. These seats are only used when the vehicle is stationary and flank a small table for champagne, caviar, or whatever the rich prefer.

The standard Cullinan and the Black Badge retain the venerable 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine (with 571 and 600 hp), although Rolls-Royce has committed to being a purely electric brand by 2030.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan review: Roll’s refinement reaches a new realm

The SUV from the elegant British firm has become one of the most premium options on the market. However, considering that there are several rivals, does this model have something unique to offer?

Rolls-Royce has never hidden its light. Adventurers, explorers, and those who believe in the supremacy of freedom are the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. It radically evolves the parameters of super-luxury travel effortlessly everywhere.

Launched way back in 2018, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan was the brand’s belated and controversial response to the rise of the SUV. Nothing symbolizes human contrariness more than the rise of the vehicle designed to do things 95% of its end users will never do, depending on where you stand.

What is Hidden Beneath all that?

This SUV reinvents the so-called Architecture of Luxury” structure under the Phantom. It’s a modular aluminum frame, reconfigured in a taller, shorter shape, with a split tailgate that provides the necessary versatility. The new chassis is 30% more rigid, improving the transition to a large 4×4.

Cullinan’s design has drawn mixed opinions. Some have compared it to a London taxi or the Gunboat from The Simpsons; others have been less kind. A shallower glass surface would have improved the proportions, but this car is intended to be a mobile viewing platform.

Like the Phantom, it’s not short on drama. Its laser headlights and lines create an imposing appearance. The bonnet is higher than the front wings to emphasize the car’s stricter character, and the traditional Parthenon grille is hand-polished stainless steel and sits proudly against the bodywork. Eleanor, the Spirit of Ecstasy, is also higher up.

You see all this from the driver’s seat, and others see it from miles away. It’s big: 5,341 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, and 1,835 mm high. Although its surfaces are well resolved, the last touch of care is missing. It looks heavy, and it is 2,660 kg unladen. Our car was loaded with almost 200 kilograms of options, weighing 2,850 kg.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan Interior: As Elegant As You’d Expect

The Cullinan brings renewed practicality to the cabin’s gorgeous ambiance. Metal pillars connect the center console and dashboard, and water-resistant box-grain leather covers the dashboard, doors, and even the back of the key. The door pockets comfortably hold water bottles.

The driving position redefines the concept of willful. The bonnet juts forward. It’s like driving off a beach pier, but instead of having an amusement park at the end, there’s just a Spirit of Ecstasy. It’s a Phantom, raised above sea level.

Interestingly, the Phantom’s slender steering wheel is burlier here – chauffeurs tend to drive first and get used to using their fingertips, while the Cullinan is more likely to be driven by the owner. The instrument dials have excellent graphics, the power reserve indicator is present, and the central multimedia screen is touch-sensitive.

There’s also a comprehensive suite of assistance systems, including a four-camera system and an industry-leading high-resolution head-up display. The car industry moves fast, though, and with few updates since 2018, BMW’s software and graphics, which are the basis of the infotainment system, need to be updated.

What ultimately redeems the Cullinan is that technology plays a minimal role in your experience of the car. Instead, you feel enthralled by the rotary climate controls, the incredible softness of the leather, and the click of the switches. Everything works with a weighty, deliberate action.

Rear passengers sit higher than those in the front, whether in standard configuration or individual bucket seats (with this configuration, you can have a cooler and whisky glasses, plus whatever else you want – Rolls doesn’t just have a list of options, it has people to cater to your every whim).

However, the news could be better in terms of space. The rear doors have relatively small openings, and legroom could be more generous. There’s certainly more room in the back of a long-wheelbase Range Rover, and you don’t sink into the seats as much as you might expect.

But then you get going. You sit down, admire the starry ceiling and the absence of noise, kick off your shoes, wiggle your toes on the carpet, and realize you have very little to complain about.

How does the 2024 Rolls Royce Cullinan Drive?

There are more high-net-worth individuals than ever, and it takes much more actual net worth to join that club than 20 years ago. They’re also more likely to be younger, to venture off the grid and do crazy things. It’s called experiential luxury. Rolls-Royce Cullinan is capable of climbing mountains while keeping Dom Perignon cold. There’s a perverse pleasure in steering one of these things up a rocky pass and letting it get to it.

How are you doing off the asphalt?

The Cullinan takes Rolls’ legendary handling qualities and refinement into a new realm, doing to rubble and off-road what the Phantom does to ordinary road imperfections. It doesn’t slide, but you get the brand’s trademark serenity even sitting in the back.

But this isn’t a car that trades on its off-road prowess. It has an off-road button, hill descent, and adjustable height with up to 540mm wading depth. It will go further than any owner is willing to take it and maintain its dignity in all situations.

We are looking to offer a different character. Networking all the systems to handle a much more comprehensive range of conditions is challenging.

So, it’s no surprise that an SUV with a higher center of gravity than the Phantom feels less agile. However, it’s only slightly less so in real terms. That’s the quality of its body control and the precision of its all-electric steering.

How is the Driving and Comfort?

The front has a new double wishbone suspension and a five-link rear axle. The self-leveling air suspension has been redesigned, and the pneumatic shock absorbers have a larger volume to miraculously absorb bumps. The shock absorbers act on body and wheel acceleration.

The Cullinan also benefits from four-wheel steering, a 48-volt anti-roll system, and power split 50/50 between all four wheels. The transmission and driveshafts have also been strengthened.

This translates into an SUV that drives like no other. It may be capable of off-roading, but that doesn’t affect its road handling at all. Large, air-cushioned SUVs with massive, heavy wheels often suffer from kickback and vibration. Not here. This thing rides everywhere with a heavy, oily, reassuring smoothness.

Meanwhile, you can only hear the V12 engine if you venture into the second half of the throttle travel. Then you hear a distant roar and a few other signs that the car’s behavior has changed. The nose quickens, there is a slight but insistent pressure on the back, and the landscape passes by more quickly.

But what stands out is the ease of use in everyday driving. The torque is so high that the Cullinan easily surfs and never gets stressed. Plus, you don’t know how hard it’s working because you only have a power reserve gauge, not a rev counter. There are no paddle shifters, but you never look for them because the gearbox is so smooth.

Do you feel the gear changes? But it’s the way the transmission downshifts so calmly and smoothly before moving on to the next that sets it apart from other cars. There’s a slight delay, but it only adds to the experience, giving the feeling that the vehicle needs to breathe.
