2024 KIA Sorento Hybrid specs

As it could not be otherwise, this new face is marked by new LED headlights, thin and vertical but with a fine extension that covers the corners of a grill that is also slightly renewed. It is a look that, as we said, we have already seen in the new EV9 and Picanto and that seems to become a hallmark of the house’s new models.

Beyond this area, the truth is that there are no major changes compared to the current Sorento, apart from slightly redesigned rear lights with a new lighting signature and now with its two units on each side coming together. The bumper also now has a greater presence with a larger black plastic surface, and we cannot forget its wheels, here present in a five-double-spoke format with a very attractive two-tone finish.

In total, the new Sorento will bring new 17 and 20-inch wheel models and three new body colors: Volcanic Sand, Interstellar Gray and Cityscape Green , which join the Clear White, Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black Pearl, Silky Silver, Gravity Blue, Steel Gray and Mineral Blue.

Inside, a more profound evolution can also be seen, with a more modern and elegant driving position, featuring Kia’s new infotainment commitment in the form of a long curved panel that houses two 12.3-inch screens, one for the digital control panel, and another for the multimedia system, which includes the latest in software and connectivity in the house. This redesign of the driving position in its most technological side has also led to redistributing the air conditioning both in its controls and in the outputs themselves.

Technical specifications of the KIA Sorento 2024

On a mechanical level, the Kia Sorento will arrive in Europe with three different mechanics. The star will be the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, equipped with a 1.6 T-GDI engine and a 13.8 kWh battery and associated with a six-speed automatic transmission (6AT) and a 4×4 traction system as standard.

On the other hand, there will also be a Kia Sorento Hybrid with a 1.6 T-GDI engine with a 1.49 kWh battery, also coupled with a 6AT transmission and in this case available in two- or four-wheel drive. Finally, there will also continue to be a 2.2 diesel variant with 8DCT eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with two- or four-wheel drive.

Kia has not revealed power figures for any of the three options, but it is assumed that they will not vary from the current version, except perhaps with some improvements in the batteries. In this way we would have in the plug-in hybrid version 265 HP and 350 Nm, currently with a range of 57 km WLTP, accompanying the Full-Hybrid variant with 230 HP with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and finally in the 2.2-liter diesel block about 201 hp.

1) Driving

The KIA Sorento 2024 is very pleasant to drive and more agile than its size might lead us to think, although its 5 meters long and almost two meters wide do not make it ideal for use in the city. The suspension is very comfortable and it is very quiet inside, which helps reduce fatigue on long trips.  The brakes fulfill their mission well and the performance is good, with mechanics that offer good torque figures and allow correct recoveries and safe overtaking.

2) Consumption

The approved consumption for the KIA Sorento 2024 is between 6.2 l/100 km for the diesel and 6.6 l/100 km for the conventional hybrid. These are average figures for their segment.  The plug-in hybrid approves 1.6 l/100 km and it is also a correct value and within the segment average.

3) Benefits

The KIA Sorento 2024 performance is good. All its mechanics have more than 300 Nm of torque and provide good recoveries that allow, for example, safe overtaking.  Its accelerations are below the 10-second threshold from 0-100 km/h and are good among rivals with the same power range.

Let’s talk now about Sorento. This generation arrived in Mexico 3 years ago, and although its original design still seemed current, KIA decided to present a notable update to adapt it to the style of its latest launches, so that it receives new vertical headlights with a daytime running light extended to the center and tweaks in skulls and bumpers.

On board there is a cleaner-looking dashboard, new curved screen design and, above all, more equipment. All versions release something. In the Sorento EX, the base, there is an electric and intelligent opening trunk, a multimedia system with a 12.3″ screen, LED headlights and front parking sensors;

The Sorento EX Pack, intermediate, now has advanced driving assistance; the Sorento SXL, the top of the range, receives six USB type C outputs, 360º camera, side sensors, blind spot monitor in the digital cluster and some other new ADAS. Airbags are added throughout the range, to reach a total of nine.

Under the hood there are no changes. The KIA Sorento EX and EX Pack come with a 2.5-liter engine with 191 hp and 182 lb-ft, with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The SXL replaces it with a 277 hp, 311 lb-ft 2.5-liter turbo engine with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. All versions are front-wheel drive.

During its presentation we tested the SXL version. At the wheel, it surprises with its good support in curves, despite the size, and the response of the engine. There is a little turbo lag, but overall it has an agile response and the power necessary to transport people in all three rows of seats.

In Conclusion

The KIA Sorento 2024 is one of the most interesting alternatives in the large SUV market with premium aspirations. It offers great comfort and habitability to its passengers and its equipment is very complete and with state-of-the-art technological systems both in terms of safety and advanced driving assistants and multimedia.
