OVERVIEW 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd

A car that’s, you know, 12 or 13 years old. It’s run its course into the ground, but I still like it. Why is that? Well, that’s why you clicked on this video, and that’s what I will tell you today. I will share everything you need about the Land Cruiser Prado in this horrific wind. It’s so weird—I’m about to be blown over!

The 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd, a top-of-the-range model, costs 75,000 Australian dollars. But considering that it’s more affordable than the base model Land Cruiser 300 and a whopping $60,000 less than the equivalent 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd Series, it’s hard to ignore the value it offers. This is a controversial opinion, but it’s an intelligent choice.

Before we get into the review, though, a word from our channel partner, Driver, is the best place to finance your next car. We wholeheartedly recommend them because they are a startup run by some good people, consumer-focused, and you get the absolute best financing for you—pre-approved in under two minutes. Plus, if you use our link, we’ve negotiated a $150 fuel card for every settled loan.

Here’s a fun fact: Jacob, this model of the Prado, came out when I was just 13 years old. It’s gone through several facelifts, so it’s not the exact vehicle as it was 12 years ago, but it still has the same underpinnings. You get these lovely, bright LED lights with cool daytime running lights.

You’ve also got fog lights with chrome garnishing around them and an enormous grille with the Toyota badge in the centre. It’s a big badge! There’s also a double-bubble hood, which is very cool, just like on the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd. Down at the bottom, you get what looks like a smiley face—a big, happy smiley face because it’s better than the 300 Series.

Moving to the side, check this out: You get 18-inch, oh, no, 19-inch wheels! Well, I’ve been wrong before, and I will be wrong again. They’re not too bad—relatively small for such a large SUV, which helps with on-road comfort, as you’ll see in the on-road section of this review. You’ve also got some pretty meaty sidewalls there, so no complaints. Jacob, what do you think? Yeah, they look pretty lovely—nicely machined.

Also, look at this: An excellent side step I could bunny-hop onto if I wanted to. There you go! Keyless entry and go—always lovely to see. You’ve also got a camera here and one upfront because you get a 360-degree camera. I have got to admit the graphics are circa 1983—not the best. But look at this! You can’t even see in because you’ve got factory-tinted windows. Roof rails? Of course—it wouldn’t be an SUV without them, would it, Jacob?

Back here, you’ve got air suspension. You get this on the Kakadu model, allowing you to raise and lower the rear for off-roading. You can’t do it while driving, but still, it’s a cool feature. Let’s talk about the rear. I love this—not just these tail lights, which are bulbous with a 3D effect, but also the fact that there’s no spare wheel on the back. Why? You can choose this with a flat tailgate at no extra cost.

With the flat tailgate, you get a split tailgate—something even the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd no longer has. They say they removed it for dust, but I say it was for cost. I love this feature, and if you don’t want it, that’s fine. You can have a full-size giant spare wheel instead and a sub-tank. But if you choose the flat tailgate, you lose the sub-tank, which holds 87 liters versus 150 liters.

I prefer the spare wheel and the sub-tank because I’d want to drive this thing around Australia, which I would do, but probably outside the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd. Down at the bottom, you’ve also got a giant full-size spare wheel, which is where they moved it—hence, the sub-tank is deleted if you choose the flat back. But yes, look at this! It opens like a door—magical! Love that!

Before entering the interior, I must remind you to subscribe to the channel. We’d love to have you around! Alright, Jacob, stepping inside—have we triggered people enough yet? Not enough? Well, I like this interior. Frankly, I like it more than the try-hard interior of the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd, and here’s why: It feels like it’s worth its price.

2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd Price:

It’s not trying to be a pseudo-luxury car like the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd, which is almost $60,000 more for a comparable interior. You’ve got soft-touch materials everywhere you need them. No, it’s not leather everywhere, but it feels nice. There’s some faux wood here, which is early 2000s, but I don’t mind. I kind of like it.

The steering wheel is charming—good leather. There’s an analog instrument cluster ahead of you, like what you’d find in a 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd. You’ve got a little digital screen in the center with the same functionality as the 300 Series, so no complaints there. It works well.

Being the Kakadu, you get a bunch of off-road controls here. You have air suspension in the rear where you can raise the rear. As the name suggests, you have a second start, which helps in slippery conditions by starting in second gear. You’ve also got multi-terrain select, but you must be in the low range. This vehicle has a low-range transfer case, and you can choose between five different off-road driving modes on top of the on-road modes.

You also get a center and rear locking differential, something you’ll only find on the GR Sport in the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd, which costs about $160,000. Do you see where I’m going with this? This feels like the actual Land Cruiser to me. The 300 Series feels like something people drive around because they have a lot of money, but this one feels like the car you’d take around Australia.

But it’s better because it’s quick, and you’ve got physical buttons on the side. They’ve upgraded the CPU because it’s pretty fast. I wish this had more than one USB port up front and a 12-volt socket.

That’s where it’s showing its age. This model has been on sale for about 12 years now—it is very long in the tooth—but they’ve done many updates over its life cycle, so it doesn’t feel too bad.

You have a massive glove box for storage. Oh yeah, and there are your Bluetooth headsets, Jacob. You do have a Blu-ray player in the back, and I prefer the single screen over the two you get in the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd because everyone can enjoy it, not just the people sitting directly behind the seats.

The centre armrest here is excellent—it’s a fridge! I’ve got a big bottle of Coke in there, but it’s pretty good. Look at this—it slides, so if you’ve got weirdly long arms, you can rest them.

You’ve got air conditioning controls here. Jacob, what do you think? They’re lovely, right? It’s like the old silver trim they’ve used in Toyotas for a long time, but it works, so if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. The leather seats are comfy, and they’re also heated and cooled in this Kakadu trim.

Oh, and a sunroof—nice to have! There’s also a mirror so you can see your passengers. That’s cool! You can yell at the kids without turning around. Let’s check out the back seats.

Alright, Jacob, what’s it like back here? I have more room than I did in the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd—controversial statement number 37, but it’s true! Where you lose space is in the next back row, but we’ll get to that. I’m 5’11” and have so much legroom, headroom, and toe room. Taller people on longer journeys will be wonderful back here. Yes, Jacob, I’m now classing myself as a tall person.

Here’s the screen—look at that! We can play Blu-ray discs—maybe even Mario Kart, as we have an HDMI port under there. We’ve also got a 12-volt socket. We have air conditioning controls with vents on the roof and heated outboard seats. The seats are comfy, just like upfront. I like this armrest—it’s excellent, and there are cup holders too. The seats slide and recline. Let’s check out the third row.

The third row differs from where this car is at its best. This is where the 2023 Toyota Prado TX Ltd Series trumps this car. Pull the lever, slide the seat forward, and then…nope, we can’t crawl into the back because we have to raise the seats electronically. But check this out! Yes, it’s a little slow, and yes.
