The 2025 BMW X3: Evolution of a Luxury Crossover

The all-new fourth-generation 2025 BMW X3 builds on that solid record of success, offering incremental updates and improvements that refine the breed rather than reinvent it. The 2025 BMW X3 is set to maintain with standard all-wheel drive and new features.

The fourth generation of the BMW X3 arrives with a new style that gives the brand its image.
2025 BMW X3 Launched
The BMW X3 has undergone significant cosmetic changes in its fourth generation, aimed at modernizing its appearance and improving its functionality. BMW calls it a new model, although it has used the same platform and is not an entirely new development.
Exterior changes
The front-end design receives a large grille with a new arrangement of vertical and diagonal bars, complemented by the BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting option. The multifunction LED headlights have also changed, with new decorative details in blue.
The side profile has been modified to include the sills and roofline. The wheel arches have been enlarged to accentuate the car’s wider appearance at the rear. An extended roof spoiler and side air deflectors have been integrated into the rear window.
BMW offers a new range of exterior paints, including the new Dune Grey metallic shade and exclusive BMW Individual options. The #2025 BMW X3 is equipped with 18-inch wheels as standard, and up to 21-inch wheels are available. Optional packages such as M Sport and M Sport Pro enhance aesthetic and functional features. These include M Sport brakes with painted calipers and design details optimized for airflow and aerodynamics.
Internal changes
The interior of the new 2025 BMW X3 redesign to include the curved screen standard in the brand’s latest models. The flat-bottomed steering wheels and the new gear selector lever are among the new features introduced, as are the new colored lighting elements on the center console and door moldings.
Sports seats are now standard, with new heating and electrical adjustment functions, and upholstered in Econeer, a sustainable material according to BMW. Upholstery in Merino Veganza and BMW Individual leather remains optional. Additionally, an optional instrument panel made from recycled polyester offers a texture that gives the impression of being made of a high-quality fabric.
Changes to the engine range and Chassis
The new 2025 BMW X3 is available in many engines, including two petrol engines, one diesel engine, and a plug-in hybrid. The BMW X3 30e xDrive plug-in hybrid version. This hybrid system produces 299 hp and allows an extended electric range compared to the previous X3, of between 81 and 90 kilometers.
The most powerful and sporty version is the X3 M50 xDrive, with a 398 hp inline six-cylinder petrol engine, xDrive all-wheel drive, an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, and the ability to reach 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. As standard, it comes with an M Sport suspension, variable sport steering, and an integrated M Sport differential.
The conventional variants feature 48 V micro-hybridization. The X3 20 xDrive offers a four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 208 hp, while the X3 20d xDrive has a four-cylinder diesel engine with 197 hp. Both versions use the eight-speed Steptronic transmission with BMW xDrive all-wheel drive.
Fundamental technical changes to the new X3 include a lighter, stiffer body and a wider rear track. There are improvements to the mounts and bushings on both axles to improve cornering precision. For example, BMW says a 19% increase in the camber of the steering axis contributes to more excellent straight-line stability (which makes sense). It has also improved electronic traction and stability controls.
The M Sport suspension option is available on the regular versions, including sports steering and M Sport brakes, which are standard elements on the BMW X3 M50 xDrive version. The adaptive suspension option is also present.
Changes in multimedia and driving assistants
The new 2025 BMW X3 has a standard lane change warning and a Driving Assistant with a manual speed limit. The Parking Assistant is also standard and facilitates maneuvers such as reversing, as well as including an assistance camera.
BMW includes:
- Three-zone automatic climate control.
- Acoustic glazing.
- Comfort access.
- An alarm is standard equipment.
It also says that it has improved the standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus and that the BMW Live Cockpit Professional remains an option. For the multimedia system, BMW includes the BMW 9 operating system and BMW iDrive with a variety of additional digital services available by subscription and allows the integration of third-party apps through the optional BMW Digital Premium package, which includes music and video streaming as well as games.
Dimensions of the 2025 BMW X3
Exterior changes include increased dimensions, which are now 34 mm longer and 29 mm wider. The height has been reduced by 25 mm, so the new BMW 2025 X3 measures 4.76 m in length, 1.92 m in width, and 1.66 m in height and has a wheelbase of 2.87 meters. Regarding space and versatility, the BMW X3 offers a load compartment ranging from 570 to 1,700 liters, with a loss of helpful volume in the plug-in hybrid variant.
As usual for BMW, an electrically retractable trailer coupling is available, capable of supporting a maximum load of 2,500 kg. Its alternatives continue to include other large SUVs such as the Audi Q5, the Volvo XC60, the Mazda XC-60, or the Mercedes GLC.
BMW X3 2025, New life for the German Brand’s best-selling SUV
BMW presents to the world the fourth generation of one of its best-selling models in the world, the X3, an SUV (or SAV, as the German brand’s marketing managers like to say) with almost 20 years of history, which is also considered the first premium SUV-C on the market.
We know that BMW has big plans for this segment in the form of the Neue Klasse X, a model that will anticipate the upcoming iX3, so this new generation of the X3 (G45) follows in the footsteps of the recently updated 1 Series, which is to reuse the base of the previous model and completely remodel it.
2025 BMW X3 Outside
- Length: 4,755 mm
- Width: 1,920 mm
- Height: 1,660 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,865 mm
- Ground clearance: 208-216 mm (depending on version)
- Trunk: 460-570 liters (depending on version)
The new 2025 BMW X3, although built on the previous model’s platform (G01), has been significantly modified. Even the dimensions have changed, although sacrificing 25 mm in height to achieve a sportier stance. Of course, the wheelbase is practically the same.
Inspired by the BMW iX and the brand’s new models (X1, X2), the car has opted for a more refined and almost monolithic look without so many folds or embellishments. This is especially noticeable in profile, with the door handles flush with sheet metal and just three character lines: a very soft one above the door handles, another at the bottom of the doors, and the fold made in the wheel arches but nothing more.
The front end features a double kidney grille, which, as is the trend these days with BMW, is practically fake since only the last portion of the kidneys has absolute air intakes, while the upper part houses radars, sensors, and safety devices. This grille features an illuminated edge (Iconic Glow) and a new framework that combines vertical lines with new diagonal lines on the sides. The sportier models have a more futuristic design with some horizontal openings.
The bumper also changes depending on the version, although both the air curtains and the lower intake are the same; in the base model, it is the same color as the body with an aluminum-colored “mouth,” while the sportier models have a black mask that is attached to the kidneys.
The tailgate is much cleaner and relegates the license plate to the bumper, which gives it a lot of elegance. The lights are new, with a T-shaped design and a bumper with two styles: one with small reflectors and an aluminum-colored molding at the bottom or a more sporty one with vertical reflectors and a black diffuser. Of course, the most powerful model, the M50 xDrive, has four exposed exhaust pipes.
Added to this are new colors (Dune Grey, for example) and a wide selection of wheels between 18 and 21 inches, depending on the version.
BMW 2025 X3 Inside
If the design has changed on the outside, the interior has been completely revolutionized, with a much more modern and simplified design. It is not strictly minimalist, but there are fewer buttons and many more avant-garde applications. For example, the BMW Interaction Bar we first saw in the 7 Series and 5 Series is applied novelly on the air vents, in sections of the doors, and on the central console, surrounding the wireless charging trays for phones.
We can also see the BMW Curved Display with the instrument cluster and multimedia system, the side air vents almost integrated into the doors at the ends of the dashboard, the BMW cut-out steering wheel, and new sports seats, which can be electric or heated depending on the version. Econeer upholstery is offered as standard, Veganza or Merino leather is an option, and the new “Luxury” dashboard includes recycled polyester covering with a woven texture.
Standard equipment has been upgraded to include three-zone climate control, acoustically treated windows, comfort access (the steering wheel retracts and the seat extends for easier access), electric folding mirrors, alarm, and rear control for the panoramic roof.
The BMW 9 multimedia system includes iDrive with Quick Select function, OTA updates, standard navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and Connected Drive features. You can also subscribe to the Digital Premium package with access to music, video games, and streaming video (via TiVo) via subscription.
Options abound on cars like these, and the list is long, including BMW ID support, Harman Kardon audio system, adaptive LED headlights, heated rear seats, window shades, heated steering wheel, and more.

The new 2025 BMW X3 comes with a driving assistant, which includes lane change warning and manual speed limit assistance. The Parking Assistant (also standard) incorporates features such as the Reversing Assistant and a reverse parking assistance camera.

The optional Parking Assistant Professional allows parking and general maneuvering to be controlled from outside the car using a smartphone.
