Configurations for 2024 Subaru Ascent

There is no larger Subaru on the market right now. There is enough seating for up to eight people in the three-row Ascent SUV, which has all-wheel drive. Based on our highway fuel economy test route at Mph 75, the Ascenso achieved 27 Mpg. This was thanks to its turbocharged torque. 260-hp flat flour engine that was paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

We’ve tested the Mazda CX-9 and Kia Telluride in this segment before, and that’s a little better. There are many great things about the Ascent, including its smooth ride, large screens for entertainment, and many safety features that come standard. The Ascent almost makes it to the top of the three-row midsize SUV market, but can’t do so due to loud road noise and a third row that’s too small.

Subaru Ascent 2024 prices

The 2024 Subaru Ascent starts at $33,895, so it remains a value-conscious option in its segment. The top touring trim costs $48,195. There are several Ascent trim levels between those two, most priced between $30 and $40. The destination rate is $1,225.

Engine and performance

The 2024 Subaru Ascent all-wheel drive system makes it a good choice for four-season family road trips. The 260-horsepower turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine doesn’t accelerate very quickly (6.7 seconds to 60 mph) and can be noisy when under a lot of stress, but it can tow a camper or sailboat.

The Subaru’s continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) made the ride noisy at times while we tested it. Other than that, the gearless clutch was open and stable. If you want more power over the transmission, there are shift paddles on the steering wheel. The Ascent’s throttle response was difficult to get used to at first. It was especially rough at low speeds in the city.

On the other hand, the Subaru has a smooth ride. Although the test car had 20-inch tires, it did a good job of blocking rough roads and softening bumps. We were driving on the highway, but there was a lot of wind and noise on the road. The Mazda CX-9 is more fun to drive than the Subaru, but the big three-row car was very stable when driven normally.

The ride was light and precise, so it was easy to make quick turns and felt composed at higher speeds. The test car’s brake pedal was firm and moved smoothly; there was no play or feeling of roughness.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

With a raised driving position and flexible seating, the Ascent’s interior is everything you’d expect from a large SUV. The cabin is big enough for many people, but the third-row seats aren’t as roomy as those in the Volkswagen Atlas or other larger cars. It’s a shame that only the two main types come with good options like heated rear seats, a driver’s seat with memory, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and leather-trimmed seats.

This car can fit up to eight people, but during the test drive only five carry-on suitcases could fit behind the third row. That was one less than the Traverse could fit, but the Subaru also didn’t have as many interior storage spaces as most of its competitors. Still, it’s a good travel companion and has some clever ways of transporting things. There are Velcro straps in the luggage area that you can use to raise the cargo floor if you need more space. According to official Subaru sources, the Base and Premium trim levels achieve an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, resulting in a combined total of 22 mpg. The Limited and Touring trim levels achieve slightly lower fuel economy at 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, which equates to 21 mpg combined. It is important to note that these figures are estimates and actual fuel consumption may differ depending on driving conditions and individual driving habits.
