Explore without Limits

Whether your travels take you down mountain roads or through city streets, the Toyota Tundra 2024 is the perfect companion for any destination. Its rugged design and advanced capabilities ensure no limits to where you can go.

Long life to V8 engines

Toyota’s colossal pickup keeps the flame of V8 engines alive. With 5.7 liters of displacement, its 32-valve block can develop 381 hp and 401 lb-ft, controlled through a six-speed sequential automatic transmission, responsible for distributing power between the four wheels.

The acceleration is not fast, but it is brutal. The torque available, even at low revs, “fans the blade” with ease despite carrying 2,561 kg empty. Logically, it has plenty of torque to support the weight of the passengers and whatever the owner decides to place in the pan.

With an average consumption of 5.8 km/l, the engine train is not the most efficient. Perhaps introducing a transmission with more gears would help; however, considering the vehicle’s weight, design, and power, the performance seems logical. It also has off-road capabilities through an all-wheel drive system with 4H and 4L modes and its lever to adjust it.

Due to its dimensions, it is not ideal for urban environments; however, the ride quality is outstanding for a work-oriented pickup, and it maintains a rear suspension with a rigid axle. It is not very jumpy, although the body’s height and the suspension’s softness create a sensation of boating at high speeds. Learning to dose the accelerator, calculate spaces, and take it where we want is easy.

The equipment gives the SUV soul to the pickup.

It is a rare occasion when a pickup becomes a vehicle of whim. Most of the time, they come into the hands of their consumers to fulfill the duties of a work vehicle. In this case, the practical approach is resolved with a punt to carry 704 kg of cargo and the capacity to tow up to 3,990 kg.

His friendly side, inherited from the world of pickups, comes when talking about equipment. We will find dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, and electrically adjustable front seats with lumbar support and heating, LED headlights, electro-chromatic rearview mirror, and a JBL sound system with eight speakers and four tweeters, navigation and steering column with memory and electric adjustment.

In terms of comfort, it delivers; the technology issue is still pending. It does not have the most modern version of the house’s infotainment, it does not offer an intelligent key – its design is identical to that of the Yaris, with no way to fold the key – and it lacks any assistance beyond stability control. By the way, it has eight airbags.

The fourth king of American pickup trucks?

The three kings of American pickup trucks remain the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, and Dodge Ram 1500. But those with a rebellious streak have another half-ton full-size pickup worth considering. We’re talking about the new Toyota Tundra.

The evolution of the Toyota Tundra

The Tundra first appeared in 1999 and was Toyota’s second full-size pickup truck, following the T100. However, the Tundra was the first Japanese pickup to be built in the United States in San Antonio, Texas. It was Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year in 2000. Over 40 trim levels, including the TRD Rock Warrior package and the Platinum package in 2010, were added.

While the truck has been refreshed throughout its long lifespan, this 2024 model represents a total redesign. The TRD Pro Hybrid includes a raised off-road suspension and unique shocks, an electronic locking differential, skid plates, and roughed-out 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.

Under the hood of the 2024 Toyota Tundra specs TRD Pro

The 2024 Toyota Tundra doesn’t come with a V8 like the popular pickup trucks we mentioned above, but it is available with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 and a 10-speed transmission. In base trim, it produces 348 horsepower, but there’s also a 379-horsepower variant, and this hybrid version delivers 437 horsepower with 583 pound-feet of torque. Its electric motor allows all-electric driving at low speeds and can get you from zero to 60 in 5.7 seconds.

According to the EPA, the TRD Pro Hybrid is rated at 20 mpg in the city and 24 mph on the highway, but it’s the most fuel-efficient package, giving you more power and performance for the same estimated mileage rating as the base SR. Available with rear- or all-wheel drive, all Tundra trim levels come in either crew cab or extended cab configurations, and bed sizes range from five-and-a-half-foot to eight-foot beds.

There are seven trim levels, from modest to fully loaded, to suit your needs for a basic work truck, business wagon, off-road warrior, or refined, stylish city rover. Prices range from the base MSRP of $37,845 to more than $76,000 for the ultimate expression of Tundraness. While Toyota’s big entry-level pickup costs more than the base Ford, Chevy, or Ram, it comes with plenty of standard features its competitors lack.

Regarding towing capacity, the Ford F-150 will pull 14,000 pounds, while the Tundra can tow 12,000. As for payload capacity, the F-150 tops at 3,250 pounds, while the Tundra has a maximum capacity of 1,940 pounds. Less isn’t always more.

Inside the cabin of the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Hybrid

The newly redesigned Tundra has a much nicer interior cabin than in previous years. Materials have been upgraded, as has the overall appearance. Like all Toyota vehicles, interior quality increases with trim levels. For example, the top-level 1794 Edition includes lovely authentic wood accents and upgraded upholstery.

Even the rear seats are comfortable. The center console has plenty of storage space, and higher-trim variants include a 12.3-inch digital display and a larger 14-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The touchscreen features a large volume control knob for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the latest infotainment and driver-assistance features and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite of sophisticated driver-assistance features, including forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, are all standard. Optional features include blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

2024 Toyota Tundra Behind the wheel

But what’s it like to drive? Let’s find out! The new Tundra is based on Toyota’s Land Cruiser platform, which means it has a better overall ride than many other trucks. The coil springs in the rear are a big help in that regard. The famous 2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Off-Road package is our favorite Tundra, featuring excellent Bilstein shocks. It’s a much more stable truck than the older Tundras of yesteryear.

It feels like it’s gripping the road positively in tight turns. If you go for the TRD version, expect to feel a bit of bounce from the Bilsteins, but other than that, it’ll provide a very stable ride.

The steering was much improved, too. Cornering is predictable and well-weighted for everyday driving. We had limited time in the Tundra, so we couldn’t put the TRD Pro Hybrid through its paces off-road, traversing twisty, rocky canyons or wading through streams.

But on the highway, the big truck with the twin-turbo V6 and electric motor lasted from zero to 60 and covered a quarter-mile in about 15 seconds. Not bad for a 5,820-pound behemoth.

The Tundra’s silky smooth ten-speed automatic transmission is a joy on the road. The exhaust has the perfect throaty sound, and you can even break the rear wheels loose when you tap it… and you won’t have to try too hard. The new Tundra is a vast improvement over the previous version in every possible way, and it looks like it’s ready to take on the three kings on American roads.

The final result of 2024 Toyota Tundra

Which brings us to the end of this superb new Tundra. It’s not the cheapest truck nor the fastest, and others have more towing capacity, but accommodations in both front and rear are roomy and comfortable. Even rear passengers get two USB ports and separate air vents for the air conditioning. It also requires effort to pass up all the standard safety features.

This new Toyota Tundra 2024 is two inches taller, 4.7 inches longer, and slightly wider than the old Tundra. Upscale interiors include leather seats and walnut upholstery. With its double-wishbone front suspension and coil-sprung multi-link in the rear, this smoother, quieter full-size pickup truck ride is friendly and capable both on and off-road.
